Twilio SMS ‘good to go’ for South Africa

Engage integrated SMS text message service for schools

Most ‘Engaged’ South African schools have already changed SMS text suppliers to Engage’s proven Twilio platform.

In October 2018, the Board had agreed to offer our proven Twilio text messaging at the subsided rate of 16c+VAT/SMS, to help schools overcome the difficulties they were experiencing with the South African provider. In addition, the Board agreed to cover the charge of conversion.

The result has proven to be successful, with no sending issues being reported.

Only Twilio is supported

Given Engage has no control over the South African provider, only Twilio texts have been suppoorted from 1 March 2019, and not those of the South African provider.

Two changes from 1st April 2019

Until 1st April, texts remains at 16c+VAT/SMS, regardless of quantity bought. From 1st April, the charge has a small rise to 16.8c+VAT/SMS. Note that unused texts do not expire.

Also from 1 April, there will be a charge to change from the South African provider to Twilio.

Twilio bundles are available in the following quantities:

  • 3,000
  • 5,000
  • 10,000
  • 20,000
  • 30,000
  • 60,000

When 20% of the bundle remains, an invoice for a similar quantity is automatically raised.

Twilio befits – a reminder

The benefits are numerous and detailed here.

Twilio starts with an email to Jenny Dry

Just email Jenny Dry, Regional Manager, requesting the changeover and the Twilio bundle required. The school will receive an invoice for the requested SMS bundle and Support will make contact to re-configure Engage and allocate the bundle.

Then you will be able to send Twilio texts with confidence.
