As a fully incorporated South African company, Engage School Management Systems is closely monitoring the emerging requirements of the POPI data protection legislation and is confident that it will always deliver a compliant product and service, thanks to its pre-existing compliance with data protection requirements in the UK, EU, Malaysia, Singapore and other countries where there is a formal data protection framework. Our parent is registered with the UK Information Commissioners Office and, more importantly than legislation even, we are acutely aware of the sensitivities of individual schools and groups in this important area.
Handling school data
Anyone working on Engage, at our Regional Offices and from the headquarters team, has to comply and abide by the Company’s Data Protection Policy. All Engage team members are trained how to handle school data and performance against the Policy is monitored closely.
The company’s policy extends to how staff handle a school’s data. We have a strict policy that, prior to remote access when requested, an authorised person at the school must first agree to the procedure before any work commences.
General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
The GDPR (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) issued by the European Parliament, is arguably the strongest data protection legislation anywhere in the world currently and further strengthens data protection practices of our group. It is already enacted in the UK and our group is on course to meet the mandatory compliance date of May 2018.
